Y&R Chicago Hotels.com – Trip Your Face

11.05.09 – Feel like starring in a Vanilla Ice video in Las Vegas or rendezvous with Dennis Rodman, a fencer and a string quartet in Paris? Or maybe take part in a New York mobster drama? Check out www.tripyourface.com.

Together with Y&R Chicago and director Anders Hallberg of B-Reel Films we just launched this thrilling experience for Hotels.com. The site, intended to push brand awareness, is an interactive and personal website that lets the users star as actors in nine different fun-packed films taking place in hotels around the globe. When entering the site, users are presented with 12 characters and can then select which ones to replace with images of themselves and friends. Images can be selected from Facebook, uploaded from hard drive, or taken using the webcam. When continuing, the user checks in to one of three hotels and arrives to a room that is left in havoc. Exploring the rooms gives clues and flashbacks from what really happened the night before, starring the user and friends. And Vanilla Ice.

Based on our previous experience working with advanced real time 3D face mapping we set out to further push the limits of what’s technically possible. Utilizing the open source Flash 3d library Away3d enabled us to do more advanced match moving and subtracted the limitations that comes with doing classic 2d planar tracking. The site holds no less than 42 separate shots featuring replaced characters, some even with multiple characters which is something we have never seen done before.

And, in addition to this, we set out to make the customized films be shared and watched directly in the user’s Facebook feed and not just linking back to the .com.

In short: “Ice is back with my brand new invention”.
