AMV BBDO King of Ads
10.05.21 – The UK version of Doritos Crash the Superbowl. Users can make their own Doritos TV ad and have the chance of winning up to £200,000 and seeing it aired on national TV during the World Cup.
The hub of the campaign is an online weekly TV show hosted by Channel 4′s Miquita Oliver. Each episode features the latest and greatest user created ads together with movie-making tips from industry professionals and the not so glamorous but oh-so-funny WTF picks.
After each viewing of an episode in full, the user is served all the latest ads she hasn’t viewed yet mixed with cheeky comments from Miquita. So either you just tune in and kick back like watching TV, or you can browse the gallery.
Aspiring filmmakers had thirteen weeks to get their video ready and sent in before the they were narrowed down to first one-hundred, then fifty and finally twenty-five by the tough judges.
The lucky twenty-five then had to pitch their ideas to award-winning actor Noel Clarke, TV presenter Lauren Laverne and ad director David Shane in the gripping finale. Contestants had to prove their conceptual and filmmaking skills to the judges and make the case for why their film was the ultimate Doritos ad. Everything was shot and edited live on set, with six cameras rolling in a gritty East London studio.
Both the grand finale and weekly episodes were also edited down and aired as specials on UK’s Channel 4.
The Campaign was a real hit with over thirteen hundred submitted videos and double-digit sales growth of Doritos during the activity.
